The Story

The Bottle Room is a wine label focusing on high quality, hand crafted and fair priced wines. These wines are made and sourced by Jan Willem van Niekerk, a young wine-entrepreneur from Amersfoort.

From a young age, Jan Willem was fascinated by wine – a passion fed by his grandfather and mother. By the age of 9, he would regularly “sip” the wines which his grandpa or mother were drinking, and by the time he was in high school he had already started his own wine collection. An obsession for aromas and flavours was created, and this led to the decision to change course in the midst of his medical studies and focus on one thing: WINE!

This passion for wine led him into hotel management, a happy decade as a sommelier and to found/lead several successful restaurants, culminating in Barrique Wine Bar and Restaurant in Amsterdam. But young fires burn strong and it was soon time to focus on his biggest dream: to create his own wine label.

Today, in collaboration with well-known winemakers from different regions and countries, Jan Willem makes “limited edition, hand-crafted wines.” All the grapes and wines are carefully selected and blended to create truly unique flavours. Together with the partner winemakers, a plan is created for each and every wine; the final blending of the wines is done by Jan Willem himself.

The Bottle Room stands for: fair prices for wineries, quality wines, and everything hand crafted. Every vintage is an adventure and making wines should be no different.
